Shoe & Dress Codes

Tights, Taps, & Things!

Dress Code:

AT NO POINT ARE JEANS OR STREET CLOTHES ACCEPTABLE FOR CLASS!!

Dancers who show up to classes unprepared will be asked to leave until they are prepared.

School clothes and everyday clothes are NOT dance attire.

Twinkle Toes & Shooting Stars

Girls: leotard (any color) with tights, over skirt or shorts acceptable

Boys: white t-shirt/tank top/long sleeve, black bottoms (pant hem must NOT touch the floor!)

Ballet Levels 1-5

Girls: leotard (any color) with pink tights, over skirt or shorts acceptable, hair MUST be in a neat bun

**Level 4 & 5 girls: pink tights with the seam on the back of the leg is preferred!**

Boys: white t-shirt/tank top/long sleeve, black bottoms (pant hem must NOT touch the floor!)

Tap Levels 1-5

Leotard (any color), tights, shirt over leotard acceptable, skirt or shorts, pants are NOT allowed (leggings may be worn)

*Leotard not required for boys

Jazz Levels 1-5

Leotard (any color), tights, skirt/shorts/capris (pants NOT accepted), tank top over leotard allowed

*Leotard not required for boys

Modern Levels 1-3

Dancers may dress in what we lovingly call “scrubby” modern attire.  Sweatpants, loose shirts, capris, socks, loose clothing (you will be moving so be sure to wear a leotard underneath so we don’t have any unpleasant surprises!)

We use Step N Stretch for all shoes and for our dancewear; however if you would like more variety to your dance wardrobe, here are some of our favorite places to buy dancewear:

*Target/Walmart/Dunhams/even Old Navy generally have a good selection of leotards/skirts for younger dancers, or workout tops/bottoms for older dancers.


HAIR:

Hair must be neat and clean!  Buns preferred!  Hair is to be off the neck and out of the face! 

A PONY TAIL IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR CLASSES! 

Too often a dancer is more worried about his/her hair than about learning.

SHOES

For shoes we use Step N Stretch for everything!

Once a year they visit us in studio for sizing and fittings with shoes and apparel ready to purchase or order.

Between those visits if you need to order shoes simply contact our lovely Shelly @ shelly@stepnstretch.com.

The company knows what each class needs.  Simply call or email with your class's and they can help you out!

**Pointe shoes!  Here's the fun stuff!  Once the dance season begins we travel down to the Burnsville location of Step N Stretch to try on and purchase pointe shoes and pointe shoe accessories!  This is one of the highlights of the season!**

Shooting Stars

These classes are a combination of ballet and tap. Dancers will need:

*Block SO205 G/L Full Sole Leather Ballet Slipper (pink for girls - black for boys)

*Capezio 3800 (Leather matte black Mary Jane style) - boys look to Level One Tap style shoes!

Ballet Levels 1-5

As dancers mature it is important to see the line of the foot and for dancers to work through the shoe. Dancers will need:

*Capezio 2037W Hanami Stretch Canvas Ballet Slipper (pink for women, black for men)

Pointe Shoes!

There are MANY varieties of pointe shoes. We visit the store in person once a year to get fitted professionally for shoes. *Dancers being put in pointe shoes is decided by the teacher. Not all feet/ankles can support a body in pointe shoes. We are all built differently.

Tap Levels 1 & 2

This style is great for durability while stabilizing a young dancers foot as they work on their technique. Dancers will need:

Tap Levels 3 & 4

As dancers mature in their education these shoes allow for a better range of motion thus allowing them to progress in learning new techniques. Dancers will need:

Jazz Levels 1 & 2

These shoes are great for durability and working through the beginning stages of jazz technique. Dancers will need:

Jazz Levels 3, 4, & 5

As dancers progress in levels it is important to feel and work through the floor. It is also necessary to see the articulation of the feet. Dancers will need:

Modern Levels 1-3

Modern is generally danced barefoot. We do often find that a little help is needed. Dancers will need:

Workouts/Conditioning:

Ballet Four & Five along with Jazz Four & Five will be required to purchase workout equipment.  (These items will be the same for all four classes.) Those items will be posted in the class descriptions on Dance Studio Pro.

A strong dancer is a safe dancer.
